Halley Stevensons has been manufacturing in Dundee, Scotland since 1862. At the historic Baltic Works site, right on the River Tay, dyeing and finishing still take place under one roof. The technique of waxed cotton dates back to the 15th century, when Scottish fishermen impregnated their sails with fish oil. From this practice, waxed cotton developed in the 19th century, as Halley Stevensons still produces it today. Tightly woven cotton, finished with paraffin wax. In 1910, the company received its first patent for waterproofing textiles.

Today, Halley Stevensons is considered the world’s leading manufacturer of waxed cotton fabrics. Trained technicians develop in-house special-purpose machines; every batch undergoes strict quality checks.
